The top accolade went to Japanese violinist Yuki Hirano, while Ruifeng Lin of China was awarded third prize.

The event was one of the six preliminary rounds for the Classic Violin Olympus International Competition to be held in Dubai in April next year.

The other preliminary rounds will take place in New York, Tokyo, London, Rome and Dubai.

Hirano and Patyra have advanced to the grand finale in Dubai.

Patyra boasts a long list of major accomplishments that began with his victory in the Niccolo Paganini International Violin Competition in Genoa in 2001.

Since then he has developed a fine career with worldwide concert tours and appearances with leading Polish and international orchestras.

Patyra, 46, plays a copy of the Guarneri del Gesu 1733 violin, built by Christian Erichson in Hanover in 2003, as well as a replica of the Il Cannone 1742 instrument, crafted by John B. Erwin in Dallas in 2000.
