The acclaimed actor - known for 'The Social Network', 'Zombieland', 'The Illusion', and many other titles - was a guest speaker at Poland's Impact'24 congress in Poznań. At the event, Eisenberg talked about his deep bond with Poland - and he confirmed that he has applied for Polish citizenship.
Eisenberg is connected with Poland by his Polish-Jewish descent. His forefathers lived in Eastern Poland's cities of Lublin and Krasnystaw. Meanwhile, the ancestors of his wife Anna Strout, hail from Poland's central city of Łódź.
The Hollywood actor, director and screenwriter, whose accolades include nominations for the Academy Award, two BAFTA Awards, and a Golden Globe Award, made this relationship with his family's Polish past the subject of his latest film - 'A Real Pain'. It tells a story of two cousins, who set off on a journey to Poland to honor their deceased grandmother and learn about their roots.
In an interview for Poznań's local newspaper 'Głos Wielkopolski', the actor admitted that he had been applying for Polish citizenship for nine months already. "All the documents have already been submitted and now I'm only waiting for the final signature" - Eisenberg said, adding that he already has a Polish PESEL identification number.
"I feel strong ties with Poland. As a kid I was obsessed with my Polish ancestry. I believe that the history of Jews and Poles is intertwined and I think that Poland is currently portrayed in a wrong way by American Jews" - the Hollywood star added, speaking for a Polish private broadcaster TVN.
