The main competition opens in Warsaw on October 2. Kambara is one of more than 160 pianists from 28 countries vying for a place in one of the world’s most prestigious music competitions.
The participants were selected from over 640 pianists representing more than 50 countries who submitted their video recordings to a selection panel. This marks an all-time record, with one hundred more candidates than in the previous edition of the event in 2021.
In the pre-selection round, held in the chamber hall of Warsaw’s National Philharmonic, each entrant performs a 30-minute all-Chopin recital before an international jury chaired by Poland’s Piotr Paleczny, a laureate of the 1970 Chopin Competition. The jury also includes both Polish and international pianists: Krzysztof Jabłoński, Ewa Pobłocka, Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń, Wojciech Świtała, Kevin Kenner, Marc Laforêt, Alberto Nosè, Ludmil Angelov, and Nikolai Demidenko.
On May 6, two days after the end of the auditions, the jury will announce the list of 80 participants selected for the October competition. This group will include about twenty pianists who are exempt from the pre-selection stage due to their successes in other major competitions, such as the International Chopin Competition in Miami.
Established in 1927, the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw is among the world’s oldest events of its kind.
Its past winners include such world-renowned pianists as Maurizio Pollini, Martha Argerich, Garrick Ohlsson, Krystian Zimerman, Rafał Blechacz, Seong-Jin Cho, and Bruce Liu.
