The installation, Records of Waiting, created by Jakub Gawkowski, Monika Rosińska, and Maciej Siuda, explores the intangible experience of time passing through a physical, handcrafted form.
Drawing on traditional woodcarving techniques from Poland’s highland regions, the work visualizes waiting as both an aesthetic and political act - one that reflects inequality and everyday struggles, but also the potential for agency.

Polish designers honored in London for striking take on time and control
“This powerful exhibition bridges traditional craftsmanship with a timely social message,” Poland’s Minister of Culture Hanna Wróblewska wrote on social media. “It shows how local cultural expressions can speak to global challenges.”
The installation is on view at Somerset House in London through June 29. The exhibition is organized by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute.
The London Design Biennale brings together designers from around the world to explore global issues through creative collaboration. This year’s edition invites participants to reflect on how personal experience shapes artistic practice.
