"Today, Ewa Dałkowska passed away – a wonderful actress, a friend. She helped shape our theatre from the very beginning," the Warsaw-based theatre wrote in a statement.

Dałkowska, born in Wrocław in 1947, was known for her powerful stage presence and long-standing career in Polish theatre and film. She performed key roles in classical and contemporary works, including "Antigone," "Uncle Vanya," and "The Night of Tribades."

She was associated with Teatr Powszechny from 1975 to 2008, and later joined Nowy Teatr, led by acclaimed director Krzysztof Warlikowski.

Dałkowska also appeared in over 50 films and TV series and was active in underground theatre during Poland’s communist era.

She received numerous awards, including the Leon Schiller Prize (1978) and the Warsaw Feliks Award (2011).
