Soprano Aleksandra Kurzak will sing the title part in Verdi’s Aida, as well as the part of Micaela in Bizet’s Carmen.
Mezzo-soprano Agnieszka Rehlis is billed as Amneris in Aida, while tenor Piotr Beczała will appear as Don Jose in Carmen.
Now in its 102nd year, the Verona Opera Festival in Italy is one of the highlights of the European summer musical season.
The event’s venue is a Roman arena dating from around 30 AD, one of the largest and best-preserved open-air theatres from that period.
It seats an audience of 15,000.
