In keeping with a long-standing tradition, the opening event will take place at the Holy Cross Basilica, where Chopin’s heart is interred in one of the pillars.
A regular presence at the festival, Biondi will return the following day to conduct the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic Choir from Białystok, north-eastern Poland, in a selection of choral and piano works by Gioacchino Rossini, with pianist Paola Poncet.
Speaking to the media, festival artistic director Stanisław Leszczyński highlighted two central themes in this year’s programming.
The first is reflected in the festival’s motto, “Let’s start with Bach,” referencing Chopin’s admiration for Bach and his deep belief in the enduring significance of Bach’s musical legacy. Indeed, Bach’s Das Wohltemperierte Klavier, which will be performed at the festival by harpsichordist Władysław Kłosiewicz, was a staple recommended by Chopin to his pupils.
The second key element, according to Leszczyński, is a forward-looking focus on one of the world’s major musical events: the 19th International Chopin Competition, which opens in Warsaw on October 2.

As in previous years, the festival promotes Polish composers who remain little known internationally, whose music deserves wider recognition, including Feliks Janiewicz, Andrzej Czajkowski, and Maria Szymanowska.
Launched in 2005, the Chopin and His Europe Festival is regarded as one of the most prestigious events on the international music calendar.
The festival runs until September 6.
