The concert features the Kraków Opera Orchestra and Chorus under its Music Director Piotr Sułkowski, as well as Polish tenor Andrzej Lampert and British saxophonist Jess Gillam, who will be the soloist in Alexander Glazunov’s Saxophone Concerto.
The programme of the concert, which is held concurrently with the Last Night of the BBC Proms in London’s Royal Albert Hall, also includes popular arias from operas by Rossini, Donizetti, Puccini, and Verdi, alongside the traditional British songs such as Henry Wood’s Fantasia on British Sea-Songs, Thomas Arne’s Rule, Britannia! and Hubert Parry’s Jerusalem.
The programme ends with British and Polish national anthems.
Poland’s Last Night of the Proms was launched in 1996 on the initiative of the Kraków Industrial Society. It is now in its 29th edition.
