50th Gdynia Film Festival kicks off with record attendance

The 50th jubilee edition of Poland’s premier cinema festival begins on Monday evening, showcasing a wide range of Polish movies and celebrating the country’s filmmaking talent.

Movie enthusiasts can explore dozens of feature-length and short screenings, attend discussions with directors and producers, and visit exhibitions highlighting the festival’s history and the people who have shaped it.

The festival features three main competitions: the Main Competition, the Short Film Competition, and the Perspectives Competition, with 16 productions vying for the coveted Golden Lions award.


Over 5,000 guests are expected, including filmmakers, producers, distributors, cinema representatives, and journalists, setting a record attendance for the event.

The opening gala takes place this evening at the Musical Theatre in Gdynia, with Michał Kwieciński’s Chopin, Chopin opening the festival.

The festival continues until Saturday, 27 September, when the winners will be announced.
