"In this production it is music which wins" says the soprano, as she makes her debut in the part of Ariadne, partnered by Rafał Bartmiński as Bacchus, Monika Korybalska as the Composer, and Hila Fahima as Zerbinetta. With a strong accent on the comedy, the production is directed by Ido Ricklin and conducted by José Maria Florêncio.
A co-production with the operas in Dortmund and Tel Aviv, the premiere was plunged into contemporary politics as it was interrupted by protesters first picketing the opera building, calling for a boycott of the show and any collaboration with Israel, then bringing a Palestinian flag into the auditorium to demonstrate during the performance itself.
On the eve of the opening, Natalia Rubiś spoke to Elżbieta Krajewska about her encounter with Ariadne, her attachment to Halka, and also about new plans that include "Salome" in Wrocław this autumn, and a start in Wagnerian roles next year.
