The event marked the film’s official Polish premiere following its world debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in early September.

A Polish-Czech-German co-production, Franz Kafka portrays one of the most influential writers of the 20th century.

Last month, it was selected as Poland’s official entry for the Academy Award for best international feature film and went on to win the Silver Lion at the 50th Polish Film Festival in the coastal city of Gdynia.

"We made this film for everyone, even if it requires some effort from the audience because it's not an easy, linear or classical story," Holland said at Thursday’s screening.

"At the same time, it carries a youthful, even punk energy—it asks for some effort but also gives something in return,” she told Polish Radio's Danuta Isler.

The 98th Academy Awards ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on March 15, 2026.
