Chopin Competition winners perform in Berlin, Italy

The winners of the 19th International Chopin Piano Competition, which ended in Warsaw on October 23, performed in the chamber hall of the Berlin Philharmonic on Wednesday.

The concert featured the top three prizewinners: Eric Lu of the United States, Kevin Chen of Canada and Zitong Wang of China.

From Berlin, Lu will embark on a six-concert tour of Italy, beginning in Florence on November 1 and continuing in L’Aquila, Padua, Milan, Trento and Rome.

Other laureates of the prestigious Warsaw competition are performing across Poland.

Fifth-prize winner Piotr Alexewicz is scheduled to appear at the National Forum of Music in his hometown of Wrocław on Friday.

Also on Friday, competition finalist David Khrikuli of Georgia and fourth-prize winner Tianyao Lyu, a 17-year-old from China and one of the audience favorites, will perform Chopin's Piano Concertos in the western Polish city of Poznań.

They will be accompanied by the Poznań Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Łukasz Borowicz.
