Kozłowski personally presented his creation, which took seven months - from April to October - to complete, during a private audience with the Queen on 20 November 2025.
The artwork, consisting of around 140,000 matchsticks, was inspired by online footage of the Queen annually decorating a Christmas tree with children living with terminal illnesses and disabilities.
The artist from Słupowo in the Sicienko municipality of Bydgoszcz County in northern Poland, said he wanted to surprise the children by giving the Queen a nativity scene created by a Polish artist.
Kozłowski travelled to London with his spouse Magdalena. His brother, Radzisław Kozłowski, assisted in transporting the delicate creation from Poland, planning a route through the Netherlands and then by ferry to the UK.
The meeting, which was attended by representatives of the Polish embassy in London, was private and was reported by the local TVP3 Bydgoszcz station, whose coverage the artist shared on his social media profile.

“Dear friends, the meeting with the Queen was a success. She was delighted with the nativity scene I created,” Kozłowski wrote on social media shortly after the audience.

This is not the first high-profile gift from Kozłowski. He previously created a large matchstick nativity scene for Pope Francis, as well as an artwork for the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela in Spain.
In addition, he has created a rocket for tennis star Iga Świątek and a football for footballer Robert Lewandowski.
