Lady Gaga backs youth mental health initiatives in Poland

World-famous American artist Lady Gaga has awarded two Warsaw-based non-governmental organisations grants of $100,000 each to support youth mental health in Poland.

The funding was provided through the Born This Way Foundation, which the artist co-founded with her mother, Cynthia Germanotta, in 2012.

The grants are part of the foundation’s Kindness in Community Fund, a $5m programme supporting 55 youth-focused organisations across 11 countries.

$100,000 for each foundation supported by Lady Gaga

The Polish recipients - GrowSPACE and Warsaw House - work with vulnerable young people, including LGBTQ+ youth and those at risk of social exclusion, homelessness or psychological distress.

GrowSPACE focuses on mental health support and combating violence and stigma among children and adolescents, while Warsaw House provides social, psychological and economic assistance to young people facing homelessness.

Representatives of the organisations described the funding as both an honour and a tangible response to the growing mental health needs of young people in Poland.

All recipients were nominated directly by young people, including students from schools across the country.

Lady Gaga has long spoken openly about her own experiences of trauma and mental illness, saying that sharing her story publicly is intended to encourage others to seek help and to challenge the stigma surrounding mental health.
