'Grand Voices' at Warsaw’s National Opera

Polish baritone Artur Ruciński and South African soprano Pretty Yende will be the stars of Sunday’s concert at Warsaw’s National Opera.

The programme includes a selection of overtures, arias and duets from Verdi’s Nabucco, La traviata, Il trovatore, Ernani and Un ballo in maschera, Puccini’s Manon Lescaut and Bellini’s Norma.

The National Opera Orchestra will be conducted by Alfonso Todisco, the artistic and musical director of the Artemus Orchestra of Pompei.

The concert is part of a new series initiated by Boris Kudlička, who this season took over the post of general director of Poland’s National Opera.

The opening event starred Polish soprano Aleksandra Kurzak and French tenor Roberto Alagna.

Polish bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny and Finnish soprano Camilla Nylund will appear before the Warsaw audience on April 12, while the final recital in the Grand Voices series will be given by Polish tenor Piotr Beczała on May 27.
