Titled The Poet of the Piano, the exhibition takes visitors on a journey from Chopin’s birthplace in Żelazowa Wola to Warsaw, where he spent the first 20 years of his life and developed his musical talent, and on to Paris, where his career flourished.

The display features items from the Fryderyk Chopin Museum in Warsaw, including letters, musical manuscripts and personal memorabilia, as well as a portrait of the composer by his contemporary Teofil Kwiatkowski.

It also includes paintings, watercolours and sculptures inspired by Chopin’s life and music.

Ahead of the centenary of the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, the exhibition also traces the history of the event, including its jurors and prizewinners, among them notable Chinese laureates.

The exhibition at the Suzhou Museum runs until June 28.
