Held under the title Krzysztof Kieślowski: Twists of Fate, the event traces the evolution of the filmmaker's career, from early works such as Camera Buff and Blind Chance, through the Decalogue series and The Double Life of Veronique, to the Three Colours trilogy.
Classic Cinemas, the Melbourne venue hosting the retrospective, describes Kieślowski as "a master director who utilised the poetics of cinema to explore the fragility of human connection, the limits of moral codes, and the invisible threads of fate and coincidence."
The venue also says that Kieślowski's films "provide a masterclass in the dramatisation of ideas, and the power of cinema as a tool for philosophical inquiry."
The retrospective opens on August 13 and runs through October 26, with screenings every Thursday.
Kieślowski died in 1996 at the age of 54.
