Street artist Piotr "Tuse" Jaworski painted the piece, working from a concert photograph of Zaucha and rendering it in warm brown tones.
City officials said the mural fits into a broader effort to commemorate notable Kraków figures through public art rather than formal monuments. Daniel Wiśniowski, director of the Kraków Brand Department at City Hall, said a dedicated municipal team oversees such projects. Kraków has honored Nobel Prize-winning poet Wisława Szymborska with a similar mural near the park named for her, and a tribute to filmmaker Andrzej Wajda is planned for his upcoming birth centennial.
"He was an outstanding artist", Wiśniowski said of Zaucha. "I hope that this form of commemoration — not a monument, one we don't walk past indifferently — inspires and prompts reflection".
Mateusz Masior, president of the Andrzej Zaucha Foundation, said the goal was to keep the singer's memory accessible. "This is how we want to remember him — to talk about him, to bring him closer to people who may not know him well enough", he said, adding thanks to the city for its help navigating the approval process.
For Zaucha's daughter, Agnieszka, the mural's location carried personal weight. "We lived right across from here", she said at the ceremony. "So my father will be in the neighborhood where he spent many years".
Zaucha, born in Kraków in 1949, became one of Poland's best-known singers, with hits such as "Czarny Alibaba", "Byłaś serca biciem", and "C'est la vie – Paryż z pocztówki". He also sang the Polish-language theme for Disney's "Adventures of the Gummi Bears" and worked as a drummer, saxophonist, composer and actor on stage and screen.
He was shot and killed in 1991 at age 42 by French film director Yves Goulais, who wrongly believed Zaucha was having an affair with his wife, actress Zuzanna Leśniak. Leśniak, who was with Zaucha at the time, also died in the shooting. Zaucha is buried next to his wife, Elżbieta, at Prądnik Czerwony parish cemetery in Kraków.
