The programme of the concert includes Erlkönig, an orchestral fantasy by 20th-century German composer Hans Werner Henze, Franz Schubert's Symphony No. 8 in B minor, 'Unfinished', Gustav Mahler’s What the Wild Flowers Tell Me and Richard Strauss's Four Last Songs with soprano Natalya Romaniw.
Born in 1992, Kapuła studied conducting at the Academy of Music in Kraków, southern Poland. He also has a degree in musicology from the city's Jagiellonian University.
At the start of his career, he worked as assistant conductor with the Orchestre National de Belgique in Brussels and the Warsaw Philharmonic.
In recent years, Kapuła won international acclaim leading such ensembles as the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Ulster Orchestra, the Janáček Philharmonic, Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon, Hamburger Symphoniker, and Japan Philharmonic, among others.
Since 2021, he has served as Principal Guest Conductor of the Pomeranian Philharmonic in Bydgoszcz, northern Poland.
His latest recordings include all of Beethoven's Piano Concertos with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra (with Reed Tetzloff as the soloist).
The BBC Proms is an eight-week summer festival of classical music concerts held annually in London.
It was founded in 1895 and is now held predominantly at the Royal Albert Hall.
