Lisowska made her debut at the Grand Opera in Warsaw in 1967 as Tatyana in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin. In her long career, she appeared in as many as 277 performances at the Grand Opera, her extensive repertoire including the title parts in Aida, Tosca, Turandot, as well as Elizabeth in Don Carlos, Lisa in The Queen of Spades, Micaela in Carmen and Elvira in Don Giovanni.
But it was her Wagnerian roles that skyrocketed Lisowska to international fame. She performed in Wagner’s operas on 60 venues, including New York, London, Berlin, Leipzig and Tokyo. At the Met, she sang the part of Gutrune in The Twilight of the Gods in 1990, in a production conducted by James Levine. She also achieved success as Isolde in Tristan und Isolde, Senta in The Flying Dutchman, Kundry in Parsifal, and Brunnhilde in The Valkyrie.
Lisowska was also highly praised for the part of Leonore in Beethoven’s Fidelio, which she sang more than 200 times, in venues such as the Staatsoper in Berlin and Vienna’s Staatsoper.
