Entitled "What Remains," Cisło’s photo shows an elderly man on his knees, leaning against a bed.
He is grieving the loss of his wife, whose photograph stands on the bedside table.
The exhibition’s title, One in Eight, refers to the statistical data according to which one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.
The display comprises 10 photographs by artists from around the world, which have been selected from more than 1,000 submissions to a global open call initiated by Fotografiska and The Estée Lauder Companies’ Breast Cancer Campaign.
The authors of the remaining photos are Anna Devis Benet, Daniela Muller-Brunke, Alex Ferro, Erica Robinson, Pippa Samaya, Nancy Borowick, Rosa Mariniello, Lyuba Langer and Claudia Wilde.
A resident of Pszczyna, southern Poland, Cisło took up photography in the mid-1980s.
His long list of successes includes first prize at the ‘Siempre Activo’ International Photo Contest in Madrid, third place in the European Commission‘s Images of Rural Europe competition, as well as a prize in the El Camino de Santiago category at the 8th Jalón Ángel International Photo Competition in Spain.
He was also honoured with the Blue Bibbon, a distinction awarded by the International Federation of Photographic Art FIAP.
Cisło writes on his website: "I am a photographer whose work is centered on people. Every portrait, story, and moment I capture is driven by a genuine curiosity about human emotions, relationships, and individuality. I believe photography is more than creating beautiful images, it is about preserving authenticity, revealing character, and telling meaningful stories."
He adds: "Whether working on portraits, documentary projects, or commercial assignments, I strive to create photographs that are honest, timeless, and emotionally engaging. My camera is a tool for connecting with people and capturing the moments that truly matter."
