A short film about Polish-American independence hero Tadeusz Kościuszko will premiere on Wednesday on YouTube, recalling his role in the American Revolutionary War.

The film was made with funding raised among Polish Americans and donors in Poland. The New York-based Kościuszko Foundation also supported the production.

Kościuszko was produced by Nostromo, the studio behind Pułaski, a film released for US Independence Day on July 4 about Kazimierz Pułaski, another Polish hero of the American Revolutionary War.

The project is part of this year's commemorations of the 250th anniversary of US independence.

The filmmakers say the production tells the story of Kościuszko's role in the American struggle for independence and his emergence as a legendary figure in the fight for US independence.

The film follows Kościuszko’s military campaign during the Revolutionary War, from Fort Ticonderoga through Saratoga to West Point, narrated from an American perspective, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Nostromo, whose team includes film producer Krzysztof Noworyta, screenwriter Filip Syczyński and composer Tommy Zee, specialises in telling stories about Polish history and culture using new technologies.

It is the team's second production, following the animated film Pułaski, aimed at reminding American audiences of the Polish contribution to the fight for US independence.

“Kościuszko was born out of a desire to tell the story of the Polish contribution to the 250th anniversary of US independence, and since the jubilee year is still underway, we are not slowing down," Noworyta said in a statement released by the studio.

"After the success of Pułaski, the film produced for July 4, Kościuszko was a natural choice. Both heroes have gained a human face and cinematic energy," he added.

The premiere is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday on YouTube.

Kościuszko was a military commander who is widely remembered as a national hero in both Poland and the United States. He is also known for his military exploits and engineering skills.

US founding father Thomas Jefferson called him "the purest son of liberty ... that I have ever known, the kind of liberty which extends to all, not only to the rich."

During the American Revolutionary War, Kościuszko served as a colonel in the Continental Army. He designed and oversaw the construction of fortifications, including those at West Point.

In 1794, following the second partition of Poland by Russia, Prussia and Austria, Kościuszko led an insurrection against Russian rule.

He died in Switzerland on October 15, 1817 at the age of 71. A year after his death, his remains were brought to Poland and placed in a crypt at Wawel Cathedral in the southern city of Kraków, a pantheon of Polish kings and national heroes.
