Soprano Eva Vesin makes her debut as Halka in the production of the opera by Stanisław Moniuszko at the Theater an der Wien. She is standing in for Corinne Winters who sang the opening performances of the VIenna production, which is directed by Mariusz Treliński and also features the great tenor Piotr Beczała and bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny in the leading roles.
"Halka" in Vienna is a co-production with the National Opera in Warsaw, where Ewa Vesin will sing the part of the Highland girl when the production comes to Warsaw this February.
The Vienna production of “Halka” is one of the highlights of Moniuszko Year, with a wide range of events marking the bicentenary of the composer’s birth.
“Halka” is considered one of the greatest works by the father of Polish national opera. The opera premiered in Warsaw, in January 1858. A tale of jealousy and sacrifice, it tells the story of the highlander girl Halka, who is loved by Jontek, a boy from her village, but is seduced by the nobleman Janusz.
Before the opening of "Halka" in Warsaw, Ewa Vesin can be heard in the National Opera's production of Prokofiev's "The Fiery Angel", in which she debuted singing in the 2019 premiere at the Opera di Roma, where she returns to sing Turandot this coming spring.
