Netflix ‘Witcher’ most in-demand series in world

A Netflix TV series based on fantasy book franchise “The Witcher” by celebrated Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski is the most popular series in the world, data company Parrot Analytics has said.

According to Parrot Analytics, 127 million people watched The Witcher within the first week after its release on streaming platforms around the world on December 20.

Meanwhile, second runner-up, The Mandalorian, the latest Disney Plus production set in the universe of Star Wars was viewed by 115 million.

The series also dethroned Stranger Things as the most popular Netflix series after 21 weeks at the top.

Netflix announced that the filming of the second season of the series is scheduled to begin in February. The premiere is planned for 2021.

The series boosted sales for author Andrzej Sapkowski, who is the most popular author on American service Amazon.com, ahead of J. K. Rowling, Dean Koontz and Stephen King.

Also, the game The Witcher 3 by CD Projekt based on Sapkowski’s prose is making a comeback after nearly five years from its premiere. The shares of the Polish company on the Warsaw Stock Exchange increased by 21,000 percent over the last decade.
