It is based on conversations the pope had with his biographer, British journalist Austen Ivereigh.
In an interview for public broadcaster Polish Radio, Ivereigh said that Francis’s dream is for people to be guided in their political, social and economic activities by the principles of solidarity and brotherhood.
“He dreams of an economy which cares for people and cares for the natural wealth, that is not, in other words, just obsessed with wealth and consumption. He dreams of a society in which the margins, the edges, the peripheries of life can be better integrated into the centre because he is convinced from the Gospel that Christ is encountered in the margins, that is where true renewal stems from”, Ivereigh said.
Ivereigh, who has written two biographies of Francis and enjoys a close relationship with him, also told Polish Radio that according to Pope Francis, the COVID-19 pandemic crisis has brought to light other crises: “The way migrants are treated, the inequalities that have grown up, the way the elderly people are abandoned… the environment… all these crises for him are part of the same crisis, which is a spiritual failure to understand that life itself, the environment, the national wealth are all gifts of God.”
The Polish edition of “Let Us Dream: The Path to a Better Future” (Powróćmy do marzeń. Droga ku lepszej przyszłości) has been published by the Kraków-based Rafael Publishing House, in a translation by Paulina Guzik.
