Before winning a presidential election in Ukraine, Zelensky was an actor. It was thanks to his role in the series that he gained popularity and support from citizens, the website reminded its readers.

In “Servant of the People”, a political satire comedy television series created and produced by Zelensky, he stars as a high-school teacher in his thirties who is unexpectedly elected President of Ukraine.

Now, the production is being launched in Poland. The first two local episodes debuted on Polsat on Saturday, the website informed.

As it turns out, Zelensky had a chance to see the first Polish-version episode sent to him by director and producer Okił Khamidov.

“Zelensky’s assistant later reported that he liked our version. He thinks the series is cool and he’s glad we made it,” Khamidov told the website.

Khamidov also recounted how his seemingly unsuccessful investment in the series from years ago eventually paid off.

He said he had bought the rights to the series a couple of years prior to Russia’s invasion but no Polish TV station was willing to shell out for a Ukrainian production.

Following the invasion of Ukraine in February last year, previously uninterested outlets suddenly rushed to offer at times a hundredfold overshoot to get the broadcasting rights, Khamidov told gazeta.pl.
