Entitled This Word, the play received First Prize in the full-length drama category.
Written by Marta Rebzda, it depicts the plight of Polish children deported from the southeastern Zamość region by the Nazi German occupation authorities between 1942 and 1943.
This Word highlights the extraordinary role of Róża and Jan Zamoyski, a Polish aristocratic couple, who saved 480 children from a German transit camp in Zwierzyniec.
Directed by Waldemar Modestowicz and with music by Piotr Moss, it premiered on Polish Radio One in November 2022.
This year’s Canterbury festival saw radio plays from 18 countries vie for the prestigious awards, according to the organisers.
Poland’s Marta Rebzda scooped the top accolade for the second year in a row, having won in 2022 for Let me tell you, a moving portrayal of the way Alzheimer's disease has affected one family's life, also produced by Polish Radio.
