The programme of the event comprises a selection of Dębski’s works, including excerpts from his most popular film soundtracks, performed by the Orchestra and Chorus of the Polish National Opera, and a group of soloists, with the composer on the conductor’s podium.
Born on October 26, 1953 in Wałbrzych, southwestern Poland, Dębski studied composition and conducting at the State Higher School of Music in the western Polish city of Poznań.
In the 1980s, he developed a career as a jazz violinist, giving over 1,000 concerts in 25 countries with his group, the String Connection. He was named as one of Europe’s leading jazz musicians by Jazz Forum and Down Beat magazines.
In the 1990s, Dębski limited his concert appearances, focusing on composing music.
His output includes symphonies, oratorios, instrumental concertos and large-scale vocal-instrumental pieces. He has earned a special reputation for his film music, with soundtracks for more than 100 feature films and documentaries. His greatest successes include music for the highest-grossing film in Polish cinema history, With Fire and Sword.
As a conductor, Dębski has appeared with most of Poland's symphony orchestras and many international ones. He has won numerous awards for his artistic achievements.
