On July 2nd Poland marked the centenary of the birth of Wisława Szymborska, the "Mozart of poetry" , as the Nobel Academy described her.

Wisława Szymborska was one of the most acclaimed Polish poets and authors, and the winner of the 1996 Nobel Prize in Literature.She wrote around 400 poems during her lifetime, using common everyday images to reflect on larger truths about love, death and passing time. She is one of the most frequently translated Polish authors in the world, with works translated into many languages including Persian, Arabic and Chinese.

The great dame of Polish poetry died on February 1st 2012, at the age of 88. She was laid to rest at Kraków's Rakowicki cemetery. On the day of the funeral, following the noon bugle call from Kraków's St.Mary's Basilica tower, the trumpeteer played the notes of "Nothing Twice" a song to one of the most favourite  poems of Wisława Szymborska...
