A total of 2,023,642 people visited Warsaw's Royal Castle in 2023.
It's a best-ever result for the institution, as both the tour of the castle (the Royal Route) and temporary exhibitions drew large audiences, according to officials.
More than 20,000 people saw The Awakened, an exhibition about Italian Renaissance, and a similar number visited a show about Poland's famous astronomer, Copernicus And His World, the public broadcaster Polish Radio's IAR news agency reported.
In 2023, the Royal Castle also hosted a large exhibition about Lviv as an art centre, The Genius of Lviv, which runs until January 14.
The shows were organised in cooperation with foreign arts institutions, including Galleria Borghese in Rome, the British Museum and the Louvre in Paris.
The Royal Castle also organised concerts and seminars, as well as 2,300 educational events attended by over 57,000 people, according to officials.
One of the highlights of 2024 will be an exhibition about the Italian Renaissance painter Raphael, featuring his drawing of a warrior, acquired in December.
The drawing is now "one of the most precious artefacts" in the Royal Castle's art collection, officials said.
