The festival will open with a performance by the legendary jazz pianist Adam Makowicz, who will play at the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of Polish Radio in Warsaw on Friday.
"We'll be treated to tracks from his latest album, 'Welcome Back, Adam!', which is a celebration of his 45-year career," says artistic director Iwona Strzelczyk-Wojciechowska. "The following day, top Polish guitarist and composer Marek Napiórkowski and his sextet, featuring stars of the Polish jazz scene, will kick off the festival on the Old Town Market Square," she added.
The lineup includes two renowned American pianists: Christian Sands on July 13 and Emmet Cohen on August 10. Both will perform in the classic jazz trio format: piano, double bass, and drums. The festival tradition of showcasing Italian and Austrian jazz artists continues, with Italian trumpeter Fabrizio Bosso interpreting Stevie Wonder's work on August 17, and Austrian jazz guitar sensation John Arman performing on August 24.
This year's program also features prominent Polish jazz stars like vocalist Aga Zaryan and pianist Włodzimierz Nahorny's trio.
The International Open-Air Jazz Festival on the Old Town Square is one of Poland's most popular and well-attended jazz festivals. Running until August 31, all concerts are free to the public.
