Among featured pianists at the event, scheduled for the first half of August, is the legendary Argentinian pianist Martha Argerich, the winner of the 1965 Warsaw Chopin Competition.
In Duszniki, she will perform in a duo with Armenian-American pianist Sergei Babayan. The programme also includes recitals by such acclaimed musicians as Canada’s Kevin Chen, who, at 20, is among the world’s most sought-after pianists, Kyohei Sorita, Second Prize winner of the 2021 Warsaw Chopin Competition, Boris Giltburg, the winner of the Queen Elizabeth Competition in Brussels, and Manami Suzuki, who won the top honours at last year’s Piano Competition in Hamamatsu, Japan.
Among festival highlights are also performances by Polish pianists Piotr Anderszewski and Krzysztof Jabłoński.
The Festival in Duszniki is the oldest music festival in Poland, and possibly beyond. It was launched in 1946 to mark the 120th anniversary of Chopin’s stay in the spa in 1826.
The composer was 16 years old when he came to Duszniki (then Bad Reinerz) for treatment and gave a charity concert there, the proceeds from which were donated to an orphaned family.
