The record comprises 10 powerful tracks performed by Julia Pietrucha, rapper Miuosh and guest artists, offering a moving tribute to the events of August 1944.
The creators of Sierpniowe set out to craft music and lyrics that both honour the Warsaw Uprising - one of the largest civilian-led resistance efforts against Nazi Germany during WWII - and speak to contemporary audiences.
The record features, among other things, new interpretations of poems by Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński, one of Poland’s most revered wartime poets, who was killed on August 4, 1944, in the early days of the uprising.
“This album is about emotion,” said Miuosh. While he admits there’s no way to truly capture what people felt and endured during the uprising, he sees his role as an artist - working with music and the wordplay of rap - as translating those wartime experiences into a modern language. His aim is to help future generations grasp the scale and weight of what that time demanded.
