Authorities said they were required to detain her on Saturday because she is the subject of an Interpol red notice issued by Turkmenistan.

Officials are now considering her extradition.

The District Prosecutor’s Office in the northeastern city of Suwałki said evidence was being gathered in Niyazova’s case.

"Our efforts have focused on collecting and securing the documentation that served as the basis for issuing the Interpol red notice and for the detention itself," spokesman Wojciech Piktel told reporters.

"Once the documents are compiled and the necessary procedures with the detainee are completed, the Prosecutor’s Office will decide on the next steps in her case," he added.
