The documentary directed by Ewa Ewart, Bez retuszu (Unretouched), follows the story of Magda Atkins, a painter and makeup artist diagnosed with breast cancer, who began recording video diaries during her treatment to inspire and support other women facing the disease. Initially intended for Atkins’s son, the video diaries were later adapted to reach a wider audience.
The filmmaker is a journalist and multiple award-winning documentary director, known for creating films with strong emotional impact. Born and raised in Poland, she has spent most of her professional life in the United Kingdom, working for the BBC and collaborating with CNN.
The festival, running until 26 October, featured 76 films from 24 countries, selected from 305 submissions across 46 nations, including narratives, documentaries, and animations designed to inspire, provoke reflection, and engage audiences.
