Bartkowiak, one of the country’s most acclaimed cinematographers, has worked on internationally recognised films including James L. Brooks’ Terms of Endearment, Sidney Lumet’s Oscar-nominated The Verdict, and John Huston’s Prizzi’s Honor, as well as Hollywood blockbusters such as SpeedTwinsFalling DownThe Devil’s Advocate, and Lethal Weapon 4.

His camera has captured performances by stars including Barbra Streisand, Michael Douglas, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Keanu Reeves, Sandra Bullock, Jack Nicholson, and Al Pacino.

Earlier this year, the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) awarded him a lifetime achievement honour, recognising his contribution to more than 30 films over five decades.

From Łódź to Hollywood

After studying at the prestigious Łódź Film School, Bartkowiak moved to the United States at the age of 22, beginning his career on commercials before being noticed by director Sidney Lumet.

Their collaboration produced eleven films, including The Verdict starring Paul Newman.

Bartkowiak later transitioned into directing, making his debut with Romeo Must Die in 2000.

The star unveiling was followed by a public meeting with Bartkowiak and a 35mm screening of The Devil’s Advocate at the National Centre for Film Culture.
