The series will be directed by Kamila Tarabura, with a screenplay co-written by Marta Bacewicz and Katarzyna Tybinka, aiming to bring a fresh, contemporary perspective to one of Poland’s most celebrated literary works.

“Our interpretation of Maria Dąbrowska’s masterpiece is an honest and emotional reflection on the myth of romantic love and the enduring tension between expectations and reality,” Tarabura told Poland’s national broadcaster, Program III of Polish Radio, popularly known as Trójka.

“It is also a story about building relationships over the long term – about how a partnership is work that can bear fruit throughout a lifetime. The main character, Barbara, faces many universal dilemmas surrounding personal sacrifice for marriage and family, the renunciation of her own dreams, and the pursuit of happiness.”

The decision to adapt the novel reflects its enduring appeal and universal themes.

“Polish culture is a treasure trove of stories that have captivated audiences for generations,” said Łukasz Kłuskiewicz, Netflix's director of film and content acquisitions in Central and Eastern Europe.

Nights and Days continues to enchant, offering a timeless reflection on everyday human dilemmas. We want to retell it for new audiences, including the next generation, through the talent and contemporary sensibility of the young creators working on this production,” he added.
