The work, premiered 210 years ago, is regarded as Rossini’s most enduring masterpiece.

Opera Vision describes Il barbiere di Siviglia on its website as “not only a work of sublime farce, but also a story of male friendship, class, the confrontations of generations and a young woman’s struggle for freedom.”

The website adds: “With an excellent cast led by Hubert Zapiór in the title role, director Grzegorz Chrapkiewicz teases out all the elegance of Beaumarchais’s original play with the buffoonery of the Italian commedia dell’arte tradition – all within the intimacy of the Warsaw Chamber Opera with only 200 seats.”

The cast also includes Theodore Browne as Count Almaviva, Piotr Miciński as Bartolo and Teresa Marut as Rosina.

Adam Banaszak conducts the Period Instruments Orchestra of the Warsaw Chamber Opera.

The production is streamed at 19:00 CET on Friday, but remains available on demand until July 23. It is sung in Italian, with subtitles in English, Italian and Polish.

OperaVision is a free-view opera streaming platform, supported by the European Union’s Creative Europe programme.
