Over his career, Linde-Lubaszenko appeared in more than 70 films and was a leading figure in Polish theatre.

He performed in more than 110 stage productions and over 80 made-for-television theatre performances.

He was known to international audiences for a supporting role in Steven Spielberg’s 1993 Schindler’s List.

In Poland, he gained widespread recognition for roles in films such as Psy, Róża and Kroll, and later for appearances in popular television series including M jak miłość and Barwy szczęścia.

Born on August 23, 1939, in the eastern city of Białystok, Linde-Lubaszenko initially studied medicine before abandoning the field for acting.

He began his professional career in 1964 at the Polski Theatre in Wrocław, southwestern Poland.

From 1964 to 1973, he worked at theatres across the country before settling in the southern city of Kraków and joining the Stary Theatre, where he played more than 50 roles.

Linde-Lubaszenko collaborated with leading Polish directors including Andrzej Wajda, Krystian Lupa, Jerzy Jarocki, Konrad Swinarski, Kazimierz Kutz and Krzysztof Zanussi.

In addition to his acting career, he was a respected educator at the Stanisław Wyspiański Academy of Theatre Arts in Kraków, where he taught from 1981 and served as dean of the acting department from 1987 to 1990, state news agency PAP reported.

In 2024, he received Poland’s Gloria Artis Medal for Merit to Culture.

In a tribute, the Stary Theatre described Linde-Lubaszenko as an actor of “brilliant intelligence,” praising his discipline, self-irony and ability to uncover deep psychological truth in his roles.

He announced his retirement from acting in December.

Linde-Lubaszenko is survived by two children, Olaf, an actor and director, and Beata, an actress.
