Five Poles invited to join Oscar awards body

Five Polish film professionals are among the newest invitees to join the US-based Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which picks the winners of the Oscars.

The new members include Polish composer Hania Rani, who won the 2026 European Film Award for best original score for Sentimental Value, directed by Joachim Trier.

The other Polish invitees are documentary filmmaker Paweł Łoziński, costume designer Katarzyna Lewińska, animator Andrzej Radke and Polish-Canadian animator Maciek Szczerbowski, who won the 2026 Academy Award for best animated short film for The Girl Who Cried Pearls.

The academy invited 529 filmmakers and industry executives to join its membership this year. If all accept, the organisation will have 11,319 members, including 10,338 eligible to vote in the Academy Awards.
