Translators of Polish literature meet in Kraków

The World Congress of Translators of Polish Literature opens in the southern Polish city of Kraków on Thursday, bringing together more than 200 translators from around the world.

Participants include translators of works by Nobel Prize-winning authors Czesław Miłosz, Wisława Szymborska and Olga Tokarczuk, as well as writers such as Jacek DukajWiesław Myśliwski and Andrzej Sapkowski.

They have travelled from across Europe, the Americas and Asia.

The three-day event features panel discussions and meetings with Polish authors focusing on the challenges of literary translation, new Polish publications, the impact of artificial intelligence and the promotion of Polish literature abroad.

The programme also includes the presentation of the 2026 Transatlantyk Prize, an annual award given out by the Polish Book Institute to outstanding promoters of Polish literature and culture abroad, including translators, publishers and critics.

Launched in 2005, the World Congress of Translators of Polish Literature is held every four years.
