A festival paying tribute to the late Polish stand-up performer Joanna Kołaczkowska will be held in Warsaw on December 4 and 5, members of the HrAbi comedy group, of which she was a member, have announced.

The festival will take place at the Terminal Kultury Gocław cultural centre in the Polish capital's Praga-Południe district.

Organisers hope to make it an annual event celebrating the artist’s work and distinctive sense of humour.

In a Facebook post, members of the HrAbi group said they wanted to keep Kołaczkowska’s memory alive through her performances and the artistic legacy she left behind.

"We feel a great need to cherish her memory and remind people of her extraordinary talent, sensitivity, sense of humour and the way she looked at the world," they wrote.

The artists said the festival would offer an opportunity to meet, share memories and, above all, laugh together.

"We do not want to stop time. We want to save what was exceptional about her from being forgotten and share it with future generations," they added.

Kołaczkowska rose to prominence as a member of the Potem comedy group. She joined HrAbi in 2002 and became known for her distinctive comic style, stage presence and ability to find humour in unexpected situations.

She died on July 17 last year, aged 59, following a battle with cancer.

A book commemorating the performer is also due to be published on October 28. Entitled Aśka. Joanna Kołaczkowska we wspomnieniach (Aśka: Remembering Joanna Kołaczkowska), it brings together recollections from her family, friends and colleagues.

The contributors include members of the Potem and HrAbi groups, broadcaster Marzena Rogalska, comedian Szymon Majewski, satirist Artur Andrus and Kołaczkowska's son Adam.

The 23-chapter volume combines personal memories and anecdotes with previously unpublished photographs.
