“The court has agreed with our arguments,” Polish Energy Minister Krzysztof Tchórzewski said on Tuesday.
In December 2016, a subsidiary of Polish state-run gas company PGNiG submitted a lawsuit to the European Court of Justice, claiming the decision on the Opal pipeline infringed EU rules on energy security.
The Commission’s decision meant that Russia would have been able to use 80 percent, from a previous 50 percent, of the capacity of the Opal pipeline.
The Opal is part of the Nord Stream Baltic Sea pipeline connecting Russia and Germany, bypassing Poland and other countries in the region.
