The Warsaw Security Forum was expected to debate security in Central Europe as well as international policy issues such as the Middle East, transatlantic relations and Russian policies, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

The annual Warsaw Security Forum, now in its sixth year, attracts government officials, decision makers and experts from various countries.

It aims to help work out a collective response to challenges and threats facing NATO and EU countries and to deepen defence cooperation.

Poland’s Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz and Finance Minister Jerzy Kwieciński were listed among keynote speakers and participants this year, alongside the US ambassador in Warsaw, Georgette Mosbacher, and former CIA head Gen. David Petraeus.

Also expected to take part were Paweł Soloch, head of the Polish president’s National Security Bureau, and government officials from countries including Croatia and Ukraine.

Poland’s Czaputowicz told last year’s Warsaw Security Forum that the European Union ”should invest more in improving its military capabilities.”

The Polish foreign minister also said at the time that a US military presence was essential to ensuring security in Europe.
