This year, the bonus will total PLN 1,200 (EUR 279, USD 303).

The move was promised by Poland’s ruling conservative Law and Justice party ahead of parliamentary elections in October. The party won the ballot to secure a second term in power.

Meanwhile, the Polish government on Tuesday backed plans to give pensioners a further bonus at the end of 2021. The move means that OAPs are next year set to receive two additional pay-outs.

Last year, the Polish parliament passed a law to grant pensioners an annual bonus of PLN 1,100, with 9.8 million people benefiting.

That law stipulated that the additional money would be paid out in 2019 rather than every year.
