Flights operated by Poland’s national airline LOT will be made available to those who want to come home but are stuck in various parts of the world, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki told a press conference.
He added that flights would be offered from countries such as Britain, Ireland, Cyprus, Malta, the United States and Canada as well as farther-flung destinations such as Jordan, the Middle East and North Africa.
He also said that the airfare would be flat and equal for everyone.
“Poland will help its citizens come back home,” Morawiecki declared.
LOT CEO Rafał Milczarski told reporters that the LOT Do Domu (Fly Home with LOT) initiative would get under way in earnest on Monday, with some flights available from Sunday.
Poland has declared a state of "epidemic emergency" and is temporarily closing its borders to non-residents from Sunday as it ramps up efforts to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
Poland’s foreign ministry has launched a special hotline, at +48 22 523 8880, for callers with border-crossing questions.
