President Andrzej Duda on Saturday in a message posted on his official website wrote:

"Let it be a time full of strengthening joy, victorious hope and social solidarity. All the more so in this difficult time when all in the country are struggling together with a dangerous epidemic, the edifying message of the Easter Resurrection greatly lifts our spirits. Rooted in our Christian religion, the faith in the triumph of good over evil and life over death, brings us hope, perseverance and strength.”

This year, the Eastern churches celebrate Easter on April 19, a week after Roman Catholics.

There are some 500 Eastern Orthodox parishes in Poland. According to the Central Statistical Office, some 500,000 Poles are Orthodox Christians, making them the second-largest religious group in Poland after Roman Catholics. Most Orthodox Christians live in Poland's northeast.
