The online "Challenge of the Stars" will pit 16 grand tour winners, world champions, climbers and sprinters against each other, seeing them compete in a virtual indoor cycling environment.

The event will be held on a knockout basis on Saturday and Sunday. It will be broadcast internationally.

Top names for the race include Britain’s Four-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome, Italy’s Vincenzo Nibali and world road champion Mads Pedersen of Denmark.

Britain’s Froome has been quoted as saying ahead of the event: “At a time like this when we are unable to race it’s great to be able to use technology to put on an event like The Challenge of Stars and bring entertainment to the cycling fans. I’m looking forward to taking on this new type of challenge against some of the top riders in the sport.”

Poland’s Majka is known as a strong climber in road racing. He was named best climber in the Tour de France in 2014 and 2016. He also won the 2014 Tour de Pologne, Poland’s premier cycling race.

At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, he won a bronze medal for Poland in the road race.

This year’s Tour de Pologne will take place from August 5 to 9, according to a schedule announced by the sport’s international governing body earlier this month.
