Polish home building slows amid pandemic

Builders in Poland completed 2.8 percent fewer homes in the first four months of this year than in the same period in 2019, the country’s Central Statistical Office (GUS) reported on Friday, amid the coronavirus pandemic.

A total of 63,200 housing units were completed nationwide between the start of January and the end of April, the office said.

It added that the number of housing starts from January to April, at 66,200, was 12.7 percent lower than in the same period last year.

Meanwhile, overall output in Poland’s construction-and-assembly sector fell by 0.9 percent in April in year-on-year terms, while increasing by 2.3 percent month on month, the state-run statistics agency reported.
