During a disruption in the global economy, Polish producers have shown themselves to be flexible and able to quickly adapt to new conditions, Mateusz Morawiecki said.
As the coronavirus crisis subsides, businesses capable of responding to changes in demand stand a chance of “taking over some links in the production chain" and expanding to new overseas markets, he added.
He told a news conference during a visit to an industrial plant in the southern city of Gliwice that the Polish economy was slowly beginning to recover from a coronavirus shutdown.
Morawiecki said a day earlier that the economy had “stabilized” and that the number of businesses planning to lay off employees amid the coronavirus pandemic had dropped markedly.
The Polish prime minister told reporters earlier this week that his country was eyeing a stronger role for itself in the global economy once the world emerges from the COVID-19 gloom.
The Polish government’s massive relief and stimulus package of measures aiming to shield the economy from the coronavirus crisis has saved thousands of jobs, while also helping businesses weather the crisis and protecting domestic production capacity, according to Morawiecki.
